These pieces of traditional detailed, but 21st century fabricated, benches are a production of theatrical engineering. To keep the benches light the tops were built as hallow-core plywood units. To create the detail on the stretcher a pattern was created and cut out of 1/8” luan using a 50w CO2 laser cutter. The edge bevel on the bench top was hand planed to create a “hand build” traditional look.
