Among a forest of quaking leaves The eyes of the aspen guard a door to the unseen
This sculptural object was designed and completely hand carved as part of Fredy Huaman Mallqui’s “Relief and Detail Carving” class at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Using a variety of techniques, and a handful of gouges, with guidance from the skilled hands of a master carver, I was able to delve into the world of sculptural craving.
Formed from a recently felled aspen tree. Carved and textured with a series of gouges old and new. Selectively darkened with the flame of a candle.
